Welcome to Charles University (CU).

To assist you in your new role in academia, we have prepared a brief overview of useful links to help you find your way around.


For full information on the course of PhD studies, training and support available, please visit the CU PhD website and the faculty website. An overview of the planned training and other events will also be sent to you by e-mail every month in the Newsletter for PhD Candidates.


Organisation of Studies

  • Basic Information for Students of Doctoral Study Programmes: Summarises information on the rights and obligations of PhD candidates at CU and provides other important information for students in PhD study programmes.

  • Doctoral Study Handbook: Provides an overview of the basic rights and obligations of all parties involved in doctoral studies at CU, which arise from the Act on Higher Education and the CU internal regulations.

  • Student Mobility: Provides information on study and research opportunities abroad, in particular the so-called cotutelle – joint supervision of a dissertation based on cooperation between CU and a university abroad.

  • CU Code of Ethics: Outlines the ethical standards (principles of professional ethics) at CU and also seeks to prevent misconduct and criminal liability of the university.

  • Contacts: Links to faculty websites with information on doctoral studies and contacts for relevant individuals.

Support and Counselling Services

  • Scholarships at CU: Contains information about the doctoral scholarship and other scholarships provided to students in doctoral study programmes.

  • Science and Research Funding Opportunities: Provides information on university (e.g. GA UK), national and international grants.

  • Central Library of CU: Manages the e-resources portal, the discovery service UKAŽ and digital repositories, and is the centre for university-wide support for e-learning and open science.

  • Open Science Support Centre (a department of the Central Library of CU): Provides central methodological support in the field of Open Access and research data management at CU. Here you can find information on predatory journals, research data management, FAIR data and much more.

  • Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer: Provides support to students and employees of CU in transferring the results of their research into practice (offers individual consultations, legal services, organizes workshops focused on the development of ideas and entrepreneurship, etc.).

  • CU Point: Provides a wide range of support and development services. It is one of the main organisers of training courses within the Doctoral Study Hub and also organises specific events to support career development or mental health. It provides counselling services (psychological, careers, legal, coaching, etc.) or support for students with special needs, socio-economically disadvantaged and student-parents. CU Point is also involved in student societies, facilitates volunteering and issues ID cards of Charles University.

  • Student Associations: Provides an overview of interest societies, academic clubs and other organisations of various focuses operating at CU (university-wide societies, faculty societies and branches of international student organisations).

  • CU Ombudsperson: Protects the rights of students, employees and other similarly situated persons in situations where their interests and legitimate claims are undermined as a result of unfair or unequal treatment, conflict situations, inaction by bodies concerned, etc. The ombudsperson also investigates whistleblowing.

  • Study Club Celetná: Information about the possibility of using the premises at Celetná 20, Prague 1 for study purposes and organising educational events.

  • CU Dormitories and Refectories: Provide accommodation and meals for students, and also provide these services to domestic and international guests of the university.
